John Maeda is a true polymath: computer scientist, designer, consultant, former professor at the MIT Media Lab, and former president of The Rhode Island School of Design. He is currently Design Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers where he advises startups on the business impact of design.
Whereas I’ve have two or three posts about simplicity, John Maeda has an entire book.
And that book lays out his laws of simplicity, which apply not just to the products of entrepreneurs but to the businesses they design. His first law is “Reduce” – the very opposite of the scope creep or overly ambitious, feature-packed design one often sees, especially from first time entrepreneurs.
Highly recommended!
