What entrepreneurs can learn from Aerosmith’s Joe Perry

…I play every night like it’s the last show anyway…

Reading this quote from Aerosmith’s guitar player Joe Perry in Rolling Stone, responding to the idea that their next tour may be their last, reminded me of another great response from Joe Perry.

Asked by an interviewer what his hopes were for Aerosmith’s newly released album, Perry replied:

I just hope it sells enough so that we get to make another one.

There’s two great lessons for entrepreneurs in these quotes from a rock star: one, whether its a sales pitch to a  prospect or another day at the office, act like it will be your last giving it all you have; and two, focus on making something people will like well enough to pay for, so you can stay in business.

(On a side note, in my twenties, back when the guys in Aerosmith were all in their twenties, I worked for the sound company that did their concert sound. Which helps explain why my hearing isn’t what it should be.)
