I won’t take the time to review Chaos Monkeys: Obscene Fortune and Random Failure in Silicon Valley by Antonio Garcia Martinez other than to say it’s one of the two best books about startups I’ve read this year, along with Dan Lyons Disrupted: My Misadventure in the Start-Up Bubble and to recommend both books very highly. (Both guys are very, very snarky however, which can get a bit wearisome.) You can find plenty of reviews of both books elsewhere on the Net, and by professional book reviewers.
But with a bow to fair use, I have posted below Mr. Martinez’ less than one-page summary of all you need to know about Silicon Valley.
My favorite line is “Company culture is what goes without saying.” While I’ll have more to say about company culture in a future post, no one has ever expressed the essence of it more succinctly.
